Costello and his brother, Abbott, are approximately 2 years old. Costello appears a purebred Beagle, but Abbott does not. Even so, both boys are extremely small and only weigh 12 to 15 pounds. Both are a bit on the shy side, but warm up fast once they get to know you.
We have determined, after extensive medical tests, that the reason Costello is so little is that he suffers from a condition known as Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, or EPI. Click the link if you would like information about EPI.
Essentially, it just means that Costello's pancreas does not generate sufficient enzymes to digest his food. So, the enzymes must be provided by his humans and added to his food. Since we have started doing this, Costello is in perfect health.
EPI is what the vets (and people doctors) would call a "manageble condition". I liken it to a person with diabetes who takes insulin.
The cost of Costello's enzymes are approximately $15 per month. Not all that much, actually.
The pups are up to date on their vaccinations, on heartworm preventative, and have been neutered.
To apply to adopt: An Adoption Application must be completed, submitted & approved. An adoption contract and an adoption fee (to help cover vet expenses) will also be required. We reserve the right to reject any applicant. Visits with our rescue dogs are by appointment, subsequent to completion of the Adoption Application. We conduct a home visit and a reference check as part of the application process.
Out of state Adoption Applications will not be accepted. Potential Adopters must be a resident of the State of Ohio.
